The 8 Nail Trends defining AW26/27
By Michael Van de Put · Creative Director at ProNails · 28 July 2026
Every season I sit with the team, and we look at what's really happening in fashion, in cosmetics, in salons, on social. Here are the eight nail trends I'm telling every nail professional to watch this autumn winter 2026–2027. Some you'll see coming. A few might surprise you. Your complete guide to the autumn winter nail trends 2026–2027, the colours, finishes and techniques every nail professional should stock before the season turns.
Nail Care is the New Skincare
Trend #1
Here's the truth nobody says out loud: nobody notices beautiful, healthy cuticles. Everyone notices bad ones. The biggest shift in nail trends this season isn't a colour or a finish, it's a habit. Clients are treating their nails the way they treat their skin: as a daily nail care ritual, not a monthly appointment.
A perfect manicure starts with a healthy nail matrix, and that work happens at home, between salon visits. We've nailed the science. Your client should nail the routine. Nail care as the new skincare is the foundation every other AW26/27 nail trend stands on.
Quiet Luxury Nails grows up for Winter
Trend #2
Quiet luxury on the nail isn't new. What's new is the mood. This winter the quiet luxury nail palette deepens and gets serious: aged leather, lace, faux fur, dark denim, deep cream held against candlelight.
On the nail, that becomes warm chestnut and espresso browns, atmospheric grey-blues, and off-whites with the softness of old lace. The pale, polished clean-girl nude has put on a coat. This is quiet luxury with weight and history. A winter nail trend for clients who dress with intention and want their hands to match the rest of the wardrobe.
"The pale, polished clean-girl nude has put on a coat."
The return of expressive colour
Trend #3
After years of clean-girl restraint, bold colour is coming back everywhere. Lipstick is loud again. Eyeshadow is saturated. Trend watchers are calling 2026 the comeback for colour cosmetics and expressive colour in general and nails are right there with them.
Reds that mean business. Plums with full presence. A fuchsia that turns the room around. This is power dressing on the hand. The pendulum has swung, and the women who stopped wearing colour are reaching for it again. Stock the reds. Trust me.
Next-Level Velvet Cat-Eye nails in seasonal shades
Trend #4
Cat-eye nails are back, but not as you knew them. The new generation of velvet cat-eye is ultra-fine, deeply pigmented, and works as a full colour on its own not just a finish on top. Velvet, not mirror. Tactile, not flashy.
Combine one velvet cat-eye nail with seasonal trend shades across the rest of the hand and you've got a manicure that photographs like nothing else. This is the premium upsell of the season.
Extreme winter glitter nails in dark tones
Trend #5
Forget festive sparkle. This season's glitter nails are serious, moody and deeply pigmented black, bordeaux and brown, fine as dust and deep as velvet. Worn as a full colour, one nail at a time, alongside the season's reds, plums and browns.
Glitter has finally grown up, and this winter glitter nail trend is wearable seven days a week.
Ribbed-Glass Baccarat nails
Trend #6
The most postable nail trend of the year. It started with jelly nails a few seasons back, evolved through translucent gel finishes, and has now landed in proper sculptural territory: Baccarat nails. The reference is Baccarat crystal, the iconic French maison known for hand-cut, vertically ribbed glassware that has been catching candlelight since 1764.
On the nail, that translates into a 3D ribbed-glass effect with the same architectural rhythm and the same light-catching depth. The pro move: build the ribbed structure over a velvet cat-eye base in a deep tone like burgundy or charcoal. The cat-eye's directional shimmer reads through the glass, and the result is genuinely cinematic.
"Light moves through it. The camera loves it. Your client will rebook before she leaves the chair."
The Jar Gel comeback
Trend #7
Here's an industry one for the pros. Bottles rose for speed. Now jar gels are coming back, because more and more stylists want the control and structural strength a jar gel delivers.
The good news: the best of both worlds now exists, innovative all-in-one formulas in a jar, time-saving and high-performance. The cycle just closed, and it closed in your favour.
All-In-One Nude Gels & the Clean-Girl Manicure
Trend #8
The clean-girl manicure isn't going anywhere, it's just getting smarter. The new generation of all-in-one nude gels does the work of base, builder, extension, gloss and colour in a single product. Skin-flattering nudes with beigey winter undertones, applied in one efficient service.
This is quiet luxury in a bottle, better for your client and better for your appointment book.
That's the season. Eight nail trends, one direction: nails are getting smarter, more expressive, and more professional all at once. The salons that move first on these autumn winter nail trends 2026–2027 are the ones clients will be talking about by spring.
